Anna is a certificated goldsmith and jewellery designer from The Netherlands. Inspired by the stillness, softness and slowness of nature, and especially by the magical landscapes of Iceland, Anna fairly and sustainably designs and crafts pieces of jewellery for artistic and ambitious women that will make you feel radically radiant and effortlessly elegant, without compromising your values.
When I was a little girl, I spent my days dreaming, creating and wandering through the trees, collecting pocketsful of natural treasures to bring home and cherish. I felt so deeply connected to myself, to nature, to the world around me; and in that connection, I felt rooted and free at the same time.
From a very early age I was struck by a fascination with gold; having visited a goldsmith’s atelier during an excursion, I gave a presentation about it at school when I was as young as eleven. During my twenties I further pursued this passion at a trade school, where I was trained to be a goldsmith.
There, I learned to rein in my creativity and authenticity for the sake of doing things the way they were supposed to be done; the right way, the traditional way. I worked my hardest to fit into the mold, as if like liquid metal, I could be poured and bent into shape as well. But the thing about getting caught up in this idea of having to be perfect, about pushing yourself to crystallize into a foreign form, is that it often causes you to lose your sense of play—and with that, your sense of self.
Much like going astray from yourself, rediscovering yourself isn’t something that happens at once. It happens gradually; one by one, you encounter parts of yourself you thought you’d lost, sometimes in the most unexpected of places, and you start to piece yourself back together again. For me, that happened in Iceland, where I did my internship abroad; it felt like an invisible string was pulling me towards these parts which appeared both foreign and familiar somehow. Before even embarking on this journey, I could already sense that it would be transformative. And it ended up being exactly that.

The gold and silver used in most jewellery originates from mines all around the world, often located in economically disadvantaged regions. The people working in these mines often endure harrowing conditions; they lack proper equipment to protect themselves from the hazards of their labor, receive meager wages, are exposed to toxic substances, and child labor remains distressingly common. Tragically, the number of children engaged in small-scale mining continues to rise each day. Moreover, conventional mining is one of the most environmentally destructive industries in the world. Recycled gold (or silver), which is often presented as a more sustainable alternative, is not actually a solution to these issues as the term is used liberally, its origin is usually not traceable, its processing is not more carbon-neutral since its separation costs roughly the same amount of energy, and it does not improve working conditions for the miners. That’s why Anna Wonders Jewellery is proud to work with fairmined certified gold and silver: this is gold and silver of responsible origin, obtained from empowered artisanal and small-scale mining organizations and mined according to the requirements of the ARM (Alliance for Responsible Mining) regarding safety, working conditions and the environment. The ARM exclusively certifies mines that do not use child labor; they also promote gender equality, ensure the safe handling of chemicals and give mines a premium for their gold and silver, which can be used for community and environmental development. Let’s keep rewriting the narrative by investing in gold and silver to be proud of; together.
